Book Details

This book contains six years of Pam’s original writings on speech-language pathology. Hundreds of topics are covered in these newsletters, including countless practical therapy techniques for speech-language pathologists. Two decades since their original publication, it is exciting to make this treasure trove of information available again.

The Innovative Concepts in Speech and Language Therapy Newsletter was published between 1983 and 1989. The newsletters were written by Pam Marshalla (née Rosenwinkel) when she was beginning a private practice, was traveling nation-wide presenting workshops on oral-motor therapy, and was teaching at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana campus.

This newsletter was the first major project undertaken by Pam’s new company, Innovative Concepts; the newsletter was an innovative idea and the first such newsletter of its kind. During its final year, the newsletter boasted tens of thousands of subscribers and was the precursor to Pam’s career as the author of several best-selling books in the field of speech-language pathology.

These newsletters are reprinted now for their historical value and because speech-language pathologists continue to ask for copies of them. The Innovative Concepts in Speech and Language Therapy Newsletter is a practical volume of timeless information.

“I still have (and use) my binder with all of the original newsletters – I was so sad when that newsletter ended! It will be a great resource for so many others who did not receive them the first time, or did not save them!”
— Bridget Dwyer, SLP

A Note About This Compilation

This historic collection contains reprints of the newsletters as they originally appeared. No attempt has been made to re-edit the articles or to re-design the pages. The careful reader will note glaring typographical and spelling errors here and there throughout these pages. Pam Marshalla apologizes in advance for these flaws and asks the reader to remember that she was writing and designing the newsletters by herself as a young professional without the help of copy editors or graphic designers. This newsletter began on a manual typewriter written at a dining room table. It improved in quality over the years as her writing, editing and designing styles evolved and as she moved from manual typewriters to Apple computers in the late 1980’s.
